Our Mission

As SWANEC, our primary goal is to restore and preserve the natural ecosystem of South Wake County, North Carolina. Numerous invasive plant species currently compete with native plants for nutrients and sunlight in the area. It seems that no matter where we go, we are always surrounded by these invasive plants. From Kudzu covering urban developments to Japanese Stiltgrass blanketing the grounds of forests, it seems like we can’t escape the reign of these plants. Due to this, our goal is to remove these invasive species and plant native species on top of them in order to restore the ecosystem.

Additionally, we emphasize the importance of raising awareness. Our efforts extend beyond removal and the replanting of native species, as we also focus on the education of the public. Educating others about our cause is another crucial factor for protecting nature. We are equally committed to inspiring people in our community to take action in nature and educating them on the issue, as we can’t do this alone.

How

To make our goals come true, a lengthy conservation process is required. However, your help will make this process easier and faster! To start off, removal events will be held for invasive species, which will vary for the time of year depending on the plant species. After several repeated removals, and if results are proficient, planting of native species will be held in events in the same plots of land that the removal events were held at. Lastly, education about our cause is another necessary stage for our goals to come true, as more people need to be aware about this ongoing issue, and we can’t do this alone.
